What is 3-methoxytyramine (3-MT)

One of the key substances, or metabolites, that result from the metabolism of dopamine. The enzyme catechol-o-methyltransferase (COMT) converts dopamine into 3-MT, hence into other substances high levels of 3-MT are correlated to low levels of dopamine. comt-inhibitor drugs taken to treat Parkinson’s disease slow or suppress 3-MT production. This effect extends the period that dopamine remains active in the brain.
